When we think of domino, we most often imagine a long line of small rectangular blocks that can be flipped over to initiate a chain reaction. These dominos are usually about the same size, and their effect is limited by their number and how close together they are. However, this isn’t the only way that a domino can influence the outcome of an event. Physicist Lorne Whitehead demonstrated in 1983 that dominoes can actually knock over objects one-and-a-half times their size, and their effect is much more powerful than we would expect.
When it comes to plotting, the concept of a domino is actually very relevant. As a writer, you want to be able to set up scenes that naturally impact the next scene in a meaningful way. This allows the reader to be pulled into your story and feel a part of the action. Whether you are writing fiction or nonfiction, a plotting strategy can be very useful to help you achieve your goal.
In the business world, a company leader who is adept at this process is known as a “domino.” A domino has the ability to move many things forward quickly by focusing on one thing at a time and giving it her full attention until it is complete. By doing this, she can then turn her attention to the next task in her to-do list until that is complete as well. This approach has been successful for many entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Unlike most of her Six Pack team, Domino is an excellent fighter and has some luck powers that allow her to manipulate the laws of probability in her favor. She has also shown great skill in her weapons training and is a proficient linguist. She has been able to use her abilities to help her overcome the effects of an artificial neural inhibitor that was planted in her head by Prime Sentinel commander Ekatarina Gryaznova.
Following her stint as the Punisher, Domino found herself in Tokyo where she met up with Wolverine and his new black ops team X-Force. When a fight with the feral mutant Grizzly left her badly injured, questions were raised about her fighting prowess and her “luck” powers. She soon reunited with Cable after he helped his father restructure X-Force, but later found herself at odds with him when her reflexes and “luck” powers were unable to save her from a bullet shot.
In recent years, Domino has been a member of Xavier’s X-Corporation in Hong Kong where she worked alongside the X-Men to hinder John Sublime’s Third Species movement of mutant organ harvesting. She later returned to X-Force after she and her old teammate Grizzly were captured by Donald Pierce and his cyborg Reavers, who wanted to cybernetically convert them and gain their alleged precognitive abilities. Domino and her team posed as a camera crew to infiltrate a medical research facility that was engaging in anti-mutant experiments for Operation Zero Tolerance.
